Last October we linked our readers to a the news story Obama Waives Sanctions On Countries That Use Child Soldiers. In a move that puzzled human rights activists everywhere, the President of the United States took unprecedented action to undo what congress and the previous administration had put in place, sending a signal to rogue nations that they will not be held accountable for their blatant human rights and human trafficking violations. He did this by “waiving penalties under the Child Soldiers Protection Act of 2008 for Libya, South Sudan, and Yemen, penalties that Congress put in place to prevent U.S. arms sales to countries determined by the State Department to be the worst abusers of child soldiers in their militaries. The president also partially waived sanctions against the Democratic Republic of the Congo to allow some military training and arms sales to that country.” (Josh Rogin, FP Magazine, October 1, 2012)
Today it has been reported that KONY, (Joseph Kony Uganda) the notorious warlord leader of the Lord’s Resistance Army (which has enslaved thousands of African children and trained them to be killers), has found a place of refuge in one of the very nations that Obama waived sanction on last October. Kony, is an warlord wanted by the International Criminal Court for war crimes and crimes against humanity–but now he has foundĀ refuge in restricted areas of Sudan. Read more…
